“You have provided my students with a window on the world as well as
a means of expressing themselves.” – Inez Elementary School Teacher
Volunteer Training

Volunteers from all walks of life, most with little or no teaching or art experience,
have successfully enriched schools across New Mexico by participating in Art
in the School's volunteer program. Many schools welcome trained parent volunteers
into the classroom to present comprehensive Art in the School lessons. No
teaching or art experience is necessary in order to participate.

The trainings include a background lecture to acquaint the volunteers with the
topic followed by a hands-on studio workshop. Guest lecturers include artists,
art historians, and community art experts. Then, in the studio workshop, experienced
art educators show how to lead children in a guided discussion of the slides and
teach art making skills. Several different art making activities are introduced
to accommodate varying age levels.
